HAZ MAT TECHNICIAN CLASSES
The Charleston Fire Dept. will be hosting a Hazardous Materials Technician A class at the
Charleston Fire Dept Training Facility - 1251 W. Madison - on the following dates:
First Weekend Second Weekend
Friday July 9th (evening only) Friday July 16th (evening only)
Sat. July 10th – all day Sat. July 17th – all day
Sun. July 11th – all day Sun. July 18th – all day
This is a 40 hour class. Students must attend both weekends. The class is currently being funded by a grant so there are no tuition fees.
Prerequisites: Hazmat Awareness and Hazmat Operations

Charleston Fire Dept. is also tentatively scheduled a Hazardous Technician B class for the following dates:
First Weekend Second Weekend
Friday Nov. 5th (evening only) Friday Nov.12th (evening only)
Sat. Nov. 6th – all day Sat. Nov. 13th – all day
Sun. Nov. 7th – all day Sun. Nov.14th – all day
This is a 40 hour class. Students must attend both weekends. We are working on getting this class covered by a grant as well.
Prerequisites: Hazmat Awareness, Hazmat Operations, & Hazmat Tech A
To register for the classes you must fill out registration forms through the Illinois Fire Service Institute.
*MABAS Division Hazmat Team members will be eligible for backfill and overtime expenses if their name appears on the Division Training Roster. The training roster must be submitted to IFSI by the Hazmat Team Leader no less than 6 weeks prior to the start of the class.*
