       MABAS Division 54 is in southern Illinois, covering all or portions of Effingham, Jasper, Fayette, Shelby, Cumberland
  and Richland Counties situated less than 100 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri and 120 miles west of Indianapolis, Indiana.   The Division area is predominately rural with developing urban areas experiencing commercial and industrial growth.   Interstate 57 and Interstate 70 run through the entire service area along with several rail systems including AMTRAK.   MABAS 54 is comprised of 24 response agencies, many of which are totally volunteer departments. These departments are committed to providing quality service to citizens over a combined area of 1,806 square miles. In addition, dedicated personnel from these agencies have joined forces to provide the region with the specialized services of the MABAS 54 Haz Mat Team.

MABAS Division 54 Chief Officers, Executive Board & Members Say “Thanks”

 Effingham, Illinois – January 27, 2012

            On behalf of the area Fire Chiefs, who are participating members of the statewide Mutual Aid Box Alarm System
                             (MABAS), Division 54 President Chief Joe Holomy, presented an appreciation plaque to
                    State Representative Roger L. Eddy and State Representative David Reis for their ongoing support of
                       disaster preparedness through mutual aid. Area Fire Chiefs from MABAS Division 54 are part of an
                      intergovernmental cooperative called MABAS, which includes 68 divisions, nearly 1,100 fire agencies,
                        and 38,000 Firefighter/EMTs, whose mission is to share resources through a coordinated statewide
                                                      plan in support of stricken member cities, towns and villages.

City of Effingham, IL. Board of Fire & Police Commissioners
will hold entry level firefighter testing.  This process will begin on February 24, 2012,
with a Mandatory Orientation Program.
